Location and directions

Jewish Children's Folkshul holds Sunday School classes from September through May at Springside School in Chestnut Hill in Northwest Philadelphia.  Most activities and classes, including B'nai Mitzvah celebrations, take place at Springside. The school is easy to access from all parts of the city or suburbs and offers plenty of free parking.

Directions to Springside School

From Center City / From Main Line

1.        Take Rt. 76 West (Schuylkill Expressway). When the highway splits, stay left on 76W towards Valley Forge (the right side goes to Route 1 North).

2.        Take the first right-hand exit to Lincoln Drive and follow the signs onto the Drive. 

3.        Continue on Lincoln Drive. Cross light at Wissahickon Avenue. When you cross Greene Street, the left lane becomes a left turn only lane. Get into the left turn only lane.

4.        Turn left onto McCallum Street, go up a hill, cross Allens Lane, go across a bridge (the McCallum Street Bridge) and bear right at stop sign onto Mermaid Lane.

5.        After your right you will come immediately to a stop sign. This will be Cherokee Street (no street sign visible). Turn left onto Cherokee Street, proceed to next stop sign, which is the intersection of Cherokee Street and Willow Grove Avenue. Follow Parking Directions.

From Main Line / South of Philadelphia

  1.  Take Rt. 476 North (Blue Route) to Rt. 422/Germantown Pike East Exit. Continue on Germantown Pike for 4 miles

  2.  Landmark: After you pass Chestnut Hill Hospital (on your left), the road becomes Germantown Avenue and you will travel down a hill through the shopping area of Chestnut Hill. Borders Bookstore will be on your left as you enter the shopping district. Continue for several blocks.

  3. Landmark: Just before Willow Grove Avenue, you will see a Mobil gas station on the left. Turn right on Willow Grove Avenue

  4. Continue on Willow Grove Avenue for about 1.5 miles (past the Philadelphia Cricket Club on the right, then Chestnut Hill Academy on the left) to the intersection of Willow Grove Avenue and Cherokee Street.

  5. Willow Grove Avenue ends at Cherokee Street. Turn right on Cherokee Street and then the second left into the parking lot. Follow Parking Directions.

From PA Turnpike

1.     Take the PA Turnpike to Exit 339 at Ft. Washington. 

2.   Take Route 309 South to Paper Mill Road exit. Bear right onto Paper Mill Rd. and follow to fourth light (5-point intersection).

3.   Turn left, then almost immediately follow sign to bear right onto Bethlehem Pike. Follow Pike until it ends at Germantown Ave. 

4.   Turn left onto Germantown Ave.; take Germantown 6/10 mile to Willow Grove Avenue. 

5.    Turn right on Willow Grove Avenue.   Continue as from Main Line Directions Step 4 above.

From Northeast Phila. & Tacony-Palmyra Bridge:

1.        Take Roosevelt Boulevard (Route 1 South) to the Roosevelt Extension (still Route 1 South) to the East and West exits for Route 76.

2.        Exit onto 76 West (look for signs to Valley Forge on the right).

3.        Continue as from Center City Directions Step 2 above.

Parking Directions

For B’nai Mitzvah and Community celebration guests (Lower School Auditorium parking)

1.        Continue on Cherokee Street through intersection with Willow Grove Avenue.

2.        Make first left into parking area (in lot on the right). If that lot is full, there is a lot directly across the road on the right. We will have signs to direct guests to the auditorium.

For Sunday classes, Sunday Fundays and Adult Education (Cafeteria Entrance parking)

1.        Continue on Cherokee Street through intersection with Willow Grove Avenue.

2.        Make second left into driveway. Continue past school on left.

3.        Park in area that widens into parking spaces left and right once past building.

4.        Follow path from parking area to Porch entrance.
