About the event
Fair and Equitable funding for Pennsylvania Schools
Last year the Commonwealth Court ruled that Pennsylvania’s method of funding public schools is unconstitutional. They found the funding was inadequate and inequitable. This comes after years of fighting over the state’s education funding formula, which has systematically resulted in more money for schools in higher income and whiter school districts. Last month, the Basic Education School Funding Commission recommended a large increase in school funding with a specific focus on closing the gap between rich and poor school districts. But the plan must still go through the State Legislature . . .
On Sunday March 3, 10:30-11:30, join the Folkshul Social Action Committee for a special panel on School Funding in Pennsylvania. Hear from:
Deborah Gordon Klehr is the Executive Director of the Education Law Center and played a key role in the Commonwealth Court’s significant ruling on the unconstitutionality of the State’s school funding policies.
Marlene Armato is a Board Member of POWER Interfaith and has been an important leader in the fight for fair funding in education.
Learn about where we are with school funding, how we got here, and what we can do to help fight for full and equitable school funding.
We will meet in person and on Zoom. The Zoom link will be given after registration.
